A Month of Thanks - Day 26 - Motherhood

The shift into motherhood changed more in an instant than I ever could have imagined. It was shocking. But I’m thankful every day that I made this shift. I’m so happy with our little family.

I’ve grown in unexpected ways - if there’s one thing mother hood has taught me, it’s that I can’t plan things. Not every moment is perfect, and I continue to be surprised at how many decisions we find ourselves making on a daily basis - hoping we’re doing the right thing.

It’s been rewarding and fun taking the kids to do things. Every outing is an adventure! A trip to a farm, a walk in the woods, the beach, sledding. If you throw a trip to Friendly’s into the plans, even grocery shopping is fun!

I find that I’m loving motherhood the most when we’re quiet at home. I like baking cookies or cooking with the kids. Watching them play together. Choosing a book to read with us. Running through the sprinkler.

I didn’t realize my heart had this capacity. My life is very different than it was before children. This becomes so apparent on the days they’re away visiting their grandparents. I often find myself remembering how “full” my weekend felt because I had to go to the grocery store and do some cleaning. I wonder what I was doing with all my free time. But when they aren’t home I miss the activity and I miss the chatter.

Motherhood has been the thing that has changed me the most as a person. It’s something I’m thankful for ever day.
