If you leave a door half open,
soon you’ll hear the whispers spoken…
…if you’re lonely, sad, and blue,
the Whisper Man will come for you.
After the sudden death of his wife, Tom Kennedy believes a fresh start will help him and his young son, Jake, heal. A new beginning, a new house, a new town, Featherbank.
But the town has a dark past. Twenty years ago, a serial killer adbucted and murdered five residents. Until Frank Carter was finally caught, he was nicknamed “The Whisper Man”, for he would lure his victims out by whispering at their windows at night.
Just as Tom and Jake settle into their new home, a young boy vanishes. His disappearance bears an unnerving resemblance to Frank Carter’s crimes, reigniting old rumors that he preyed with an accomplice. Now, Detectives Amanda Beck and Pete Willis must find the boy before it is too late, even if that meals Pete has to revisit his great foe in prison: The Whisper Man.
And then Jake begins acting strangely. He hears a whispering at his window…
Review
I chose this because it was October and I wanted to read something a little spooky. This definitely didn’t disappoint.
I really enjoyed all the characters in this book. They were full and well developed. I thought Pete Willis in particular was really well written. I was expecting, from the description, more of a classic crime/detective book but this had a lot more depth. I enjoyed the arc about Pete, I enjoyed the arc about Jake and his Dad. I thought it was interesting learning about Frank Carter. There was a lot happening in this story and I enjoyed it all.
This wasn’t a “put the book in the freezer” kind of read. But it certainly kept me on the edge of my seat. It only slightly violates my rule about reading books about bad stuff happening to kids. Obviously, from the description, a boy is taken. But I didn’t find the descriptions of this to be over-the-top graphic. It made me squirm, but only a little bit.
I really enjoyed this! If you want to get a copy for yourself, you’re welcome to use this affiliate link.
