I Fell in Love with Oatmeal
When my grandmother was alive, she had oatmeal every morning. Once, she told me she loved it so much she used to dream about it!
Now, my feelings have never been that strong.
One thing I’ve discovered about myself is that I really prefer a hot breakfast. I’m not a yogurt/fruit person. I wish I was, because it would be so easy! Sometimes I’ll do a week of overnight oats - I actually do like those quite a bit. But at the end of the day I really prefer something hot for breakfast - in addition to my hot coffee, which I drink in the morning even on the hottest summer day.
I’ve recently started making steel cut oats overnight in the crockpot. This isn’t really a recipe - just how I find it the most delicious. Spray your crockpot with cooking spray. 1 cup of steel cut oats, 4 cups of water. Crockpot on low and go to bed. The oatmeal gets brown and sticks to the crock on the edges - you need to kind of scrape it down. I love this because I get a few crunchy-ish pieces in my bowl! I top it with sugar (I use Truvia), cinnamon, and milk. Sometimes blueberries and/or banana slices too.
It’s so delicious and Dominic loves it too. I haven’t dreamt about it yet, but I’ll keep you posted!
