Self-Care During Busy or Stressful Times

I’m curious how you take care of yourself when you are going through busy or stressful times.

For many reasons, March is a stressful time in my job. Last year I ended up with an outbreak of eczema on my face - it took a couple of months to really calm down.

This year I’m trying to take control of my stress - I’ve mentioned this before. Throughout 2019 I made a lot of gains in dealing with stress and I’m continuing this work in 2020. I made a goal of making yoga a priority - and it’s done a lot. It’s a chance for me to quiet my mind down for a little bit.

This is what I’m thinking of for March - and please drop a comment to give me suggestions or share how you care for yourself when life around you is causing stress.

  • I’m going to continue making yoga a priority, even if it’s a 5 minute practice where I’m basically breathing and doing some stretches.

  • Same with exercise - I feel best when I move every day, even if it’s only for a short period of time.

  • I tend to work through my lunch every day. I’m going to start bringing reading material and force myself to check out for a period of time during lunch or for the length of lunch (I sometimes try and push my actual lunch time a little later so I’m not starving by the end of my school day).

  • I’m going to be sure to plan meals and lunches that make me feel good. When things get stressful I sometimes take the “easy way out” with meal planning and prep. Although this sometimes saves me a little time on a Sunday afternoon/evening, I pay for it all week when I’m eating junk and feel low on energy.
